Telecommuting or working from home can either be a godsend or a curse depending on the person. Some people thrive in the work environment while others find it too distracting and work better from home. Conversely, some people find working from home to be too distracting with all of the benefits of home and all the responsibilities – paying bills, looking into texas electricity providers, cleaning the house. The key to working from home successfully, despite all of these distractions, is in being able to stay focused on the task.
I, for one, work much better from home than I do in a loud and bustling office where everyone is talking or hovering around other peoples’ cubes. I usually do all of my work in my den and it is designated as “a den” because of some things I have implemented in the area. For starters, my den has no windows which means I can’t look outside and become distracted or involved with anything I happen to see out there. My den also doesn’t have an internet connection – rather, the ONLY thing I use this connection for is to do work. Any irrelevant sites I simply filter out. However, probably the best feature of my den is that the door has a lock. So the only piece of advice I can really give for focusing while working from home is to isolate yourself from all distraction. Once you do that, you should find it much easier to focus on the task at hand.
